STAR Plus…

One day, I overheard a serious conversation between two women sympathizing with someone. The conversation actually focused a scene from STAR Plus drama. In good old days, television dramas had story, quality dialogues and classic acting for the audience. Gone are the days when Waris, Sumander, Dhoop Kinaray, Chand Ghrehan, to name a few, graced the television screen. We are now condemned to watch ‘saas bahu’ soap operas on STAR Plus. This is the only place where you will find: cartoon colored red/blue walls; sleeping women in full party makeup/dress complete with matching jewelry; crocodile tears; mother conspiring against son; daughter-in-law pitched against mother-in-law; loud self talk over heard by someone hidden behind the wall; pregnant women running around; veiled nudity; seductive talk; pathetic screen play; disgusting acting and never ending story. The fact is that soap operas are marketed for women. That’s why the story revolves around women and their intrigues with full masala of designer dresses, make up, jewelry, lights and show off. Women of all ages fall easy prey to this marketing.  I do not have the stomach to watch soap opera even for five minutes. If i do, it is usually in shape of punishment since at times you have to wait for your turn to watch television.
